  • Two Cheers for "Made in China"?

  • To be honest, I’m just not much of a worshipper for foreign things. I’m not a die-hard Apple fan, sometimes, I just wonder why people are willing to spend twice of the price, through all ways to get an iPhone, whose first-selling countries even excluded China. When I felt a little bit worried about this phenomenon, worried about the future of our domestic products. One of my foreign friends released me, he told me, he has strong crush on Xiao Mi, and many Europeans today are interested in this cheap smart phone. So, as you can see! Our domestic products have a good market. Then, these two opposing views toward made in China lead me to consider:

First thing flashed through my mind is that, since today’s world market is filled with made-in-China products, does this mean China has an irreplaceable effect on the world’s economy? Last summer, I want to LA Disneyland. I wandered in a souvenir shop, hoping to find something local. However, all of them are made in China. Whoa! A Chinese people bought Chinese product from America?! Sounds ironical. I felt a flush of complex feeling. I realized the fact that human beings today cannot live without Chinese products. And it has also been proved by Sarah Banzerni, an American journalist, who tried to live a year without “made in China”. The result is obvious, this experiment ended in chaos. From hats to socks, from blankets to quits, from cooks to toilets, where are they made? China!!! To this point, I feelproud of my country. However, what if I change my mind a little bit, ask myself “Does the product made in China can be defined as Chinese product?” If we just assemble them, not create, our names will never be left on their patents.

So, how can “made in China” prevail in the world? By the low price, the cheap labor. Image some day, when RMB suffers from the internal depreciation, which brings the increasing labor cost. Companies would like to choose other countries, like Vietnam, rather than China. That day, we would lose our advantage, we would lose the seat in the world’s market. Then we may think, at least, we have rich resources. But when we look around, sadly, we can only find polluted water, smog in the air, and there is no forest to use any more.

Being at the bottom of the industry chain, we are developing our economy based on destroying environment, wasting resources. We produce in large quantity, but in low quality. This is the stereotype of made in China. After the exposure of San Lu poisonous milk powder, several companies were accused of producing problem products, some of them are household brands. These bad news increase the fear in public. People today really miss the old days when the businessmen are reliable, the products made in China are in high quality.

But just like every coin has two sides. These mistakes also mean, our industry is developing. Just like you and me, we modelled adults, wearing mothers’ high heels, we broke neighbor’s windows, we cheated in exams. We did bad things in childhood. After punishment, after encouragement, we become an adult, we have good manners.

I hope you can treat made in China like baby, forgive its mistakes. Support it! And encourage it! Some day, made in China will represent high quality. Some day, made in China will be irreplaceable. Some day, made in China will disappear, instead, created in China will fill your life!

    Thank you!
