When I was in Junior high, I once took part in a story-writing competition where we were given an opening and were asked to finish the story in Harry Potter’s setting. It’s obvious that I have to know the story well enough so that I can tell a reasonable story. And the best way to get familiar with the story’s background is repetition. So during that period, I really spend a lot of time on Harry Potter: I read all of the books, many times, each; watched all the movies, multiple times, each; listen to the audio books, countless times. I mean, we're talking about numbers in the hundreds. It's kind of tiring but my effort paid off: my story won the first prize.”

I’m a terrible artist.

I’ve always admired great artists but from an early age, I was convinced that I couldn’t become one, because ever since kindergarten, I was explicitly told how to draw. A head with a ponytail, a smiley face, a rigid torso, four protruding limbs, and bam, there you have it – a beautiful girl. If you want a boy, just get rid of the ponytail. Gradually I started to draw the same style of people every time. Are they creative? No. So as you can see, I’m truly an awful artist.

Wait. But am I?

Picasso once said “All children are born artists”. Clearly we’re getting some contradictions here - either Picasso or I am wrong. But today I’m here to tell you this: that all kids have tremendous talents. And very often, schools squander them.
……
There’s a second half to the quote from Picasso, and I implore you to help make the change. “All children are born artists. The problem is to remain an artist as we grow up.”

“He talked about what HIS school has done to promote students’ creativity. I think that’s a very good example and it really can help the jury understand better what HE approaches creativity,”詹成说。

A variety of activities that allow students to develop creativity are now available at many schools. In my school, for instance, there are an estimated 50 different associations open to students where they are free to show their talents in a particular aspect or to help manage their school routines. They take the liberty to decide for themselves when joining in, in different activities, and many of the solutions proposed by these associations prove to be rather creative. Our school is not alone. Nowadays, more and more schools have come to realize that education must focus on the development of each individual and are willing to create an atmosphere for students to show their creativity.
