个人简介：As a college student, I always keep an eye on the current affairs of our country and the heated issues around the world. By keeping in touch with the outside world, I am trying to broaden my horizon without being restricted to my simple college life. I also have a clear career perspective which I am right now on the way of preparing for.
Good morning/afternoon, ladies and gentlemen,
Several days ago, when I was watching television, I got the surprising news that China was evacuating its citizens from war-torn Libya. Tens of thousands of Chinese nationals safely came back to the motherland, thanks to the painstaking effort of the Chinese government. A journalist interviewed some of the evacuees on a plane and one of them said excitedly: “I’m no longer panicked in face of disasters. I could feel an overwhelming force behind me, an increasingly powerful China.”
YES. China is emerging as a prominent power around the globe. By successfully launching two lunar probes our nation has made remarkable progress in the space industry. By impressively hosting the Beijing Olympic Games and the Shanghai Expo, our motherland has acquired the economic power to promote its culture. All these events tell us that China is rising. With the diligence and intelligence of the Chinese young generation, China will always be rising--this is my faith. And it’s also the faith which makes a marked difference to the life of many passionate youth.
Some days ago, I chatted with a friend who was studying economics in America. When asked where to start his career after graduation, he gave me a brief yet firm answer: “Sure enough, China!” He said, “For one thing, China is my motherland where I was born and raised; for another, China’s economy is roaring. There is much larger potential for development along with better job perspectives.” This notion is actually widely shared by the majority of our generation. Instead of struggling for a foreign passport, many of the Chinese elites are now choosing to stay. While enjoying the enormous opportunities deriving from China’s current-day prosperity, they are also pondering what they could do, in return, to contribute to the rapid growth of China’s wealth and strength.
In addition to these elites, ordinary people have also been deeply convinced that day by day, our country will be better-off. My cousin, a village farmer toiling and sweating on the farmland, is one of them. He told me that since many favorable policies were implemented, farming has become much more profitable than before. Last year his annual income topped 30,000 Yuan and this year he is able to engage two or more workers to help him with the farm work. He has every confidence that he will create an affluent and satisfying life through his own efforts.
Yes, our future is on our own hands, and it is even more true to say that our country’s future also depends on us. We know that the road ahead of us is destined to be long and hard, yet with abundant confidence and firm belief, my friend studying overseas, my cousin working on the farm, and I right here on the stage, along with hundreds of millions of Chinese youth are ready to face numerous difficulties and obstacles in the days to come. Youth with faith is the most invincible power of our nation!
