South Korea's dominance prevails as Chinese Taipei suffers defeat in the women's basketball group round at 59:87.
Although Taipei had a seven-point advantage at the start of the first quarter, it was overtaken by South Korea after one time-out. In the second quarter, Taipei made a tie with a struggle, and quickly took a 2-score advantage of its contender. However, in the second half, the Korean team gradually widened the gap and kept it to 15 points. 63-48 was the final score of the third quarter. With this considerable advantage, the South Koreans continued to lead the game, while increasing their advantage. In the end, South Korea won the entire round by 87-59.
Holistically, the Korean team truly did slightly outperform the Chinese Taipei throughout the game. In particular, Park Jihyun, the team's center, was brilliant from the free-throw line, hitting eight of her eight attempts -- her team's total was just 15. Meanwhile, Taipei's Lin Yu-Ting scored 16 points -- she was the top scorer among her compatriots.
Currently, Taipei has one win and two losses, while South Korea has three victories. That means South Korea will be in the quarterfinals by virtue of finishing first in its group.
